Dental clinics at schools
Find out about the different types of dental clinics you can have at your school, and which lease agreements cover them.
Types of dental clinic arrangements
Health New Zealand provides oral health services at many schools across the motu. There are different arrangements for different kinds of dental clinics (or oral health services).
Examples include:
- a fixed dental clinic, either owned by us or Health New Zealand
- a mobile unit with a permanent pad at your school
- a mobile dental unit with no permanent pad (which is known as a 'level 1 dental unit')
- a mobile dental unit run by a private contractor.
Standard lease agreements
We use a standard lease agreement for clinics that are owned by us or Health New Zealand. The original agreement can’t be changed.
We provide standard lease agreements for:
- clinics that are fixed in place
- mobile clinics that have a permanent site at your school.
Concrete pads are for mobile clinics only. You can’t build on concrete pads or use them for another purpose.
Schools must fill out our third-party occupancy application form and Schedule C, and send both documents to their property advisor.
Talk to your school's property advisor first if you need more information.
Casual use agreement for temporary clinics
You can use a casual use agreement for mobile clinics. It applies to clinics that are managed by Health New Zealand, or run by private providers. Private providers are contracted by Health New Zealand and supply all their own equipment.
Mobile units are parked at the school for a few days to a year. They’re used for x-rays and some treatments, but not for drilling and filling.
Casual use agreements can be negotiated by the school board.
The license cannot be changed. It allows you to charge a fee of $10.00, but you can’t charge any other rent or payments.
