Who we work with
We work with schools, suppliers and many others to ensure schools have quality, value-for-money learning environments for children and young people.
Schools
We support more than 2,200 state schools and kura across New Zealand. Each school and kura has a dedicated NZSPA Property Advisor who works with them on day-to-day property matters, and supports longer term planning for upgrades and improvements.
Here’s a snapshot of the number of schools we support across the regions:
- Te Tai Tokerau | Northland region: Around 160 schools and kura
- Auckland region: Around 477 schools and kura
- Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Hawkes Bay regions: Around 653 schools and kura
- Wellington, Taranaki and Whanganui and Manawatu regions: Around 453 schools and kura
- South Island region: Around 545 schools and kura.
Suppliers
We work closely with suppliers to support all aspects of school property. From building new classrooms, to replacing carpet in existing buildings, to removing asbestos on school sites, thousands of people across the country play an important role in delivering and maintaining schools.
NZSPA use supplier panels for much of the work we procure, including the:
- Construction Directory
- Offsite Manufactured Building Panel
- Professional Services Directory
- Property Project and Programme Management Panel
- ICT Contractors Panel
- Accredited suppliers for asbestos related works.
Other supplier opportunities are often offered via the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) or through All of Government panels.

Iwi
We engage with iwi, hapū, and Māori communities to understand school property priorities, develop long-term positive relationships, and to create opportunities for shared planning and decision-making.
Other agencies
We work closely with the Ministry of Education and other government agencies as needed to provide advice or implement a coordinated approach to school property. For example, when an emergency such as flooding occurs that involves school property, that will usually also affect a school’s on-site teaching and learning, so a joint response is required.
Sector organisations
We engage with a number of national and regional sector peak bodies with a shared interest in school property. These bodies provide valuable feedback on our work and priorities.
