Our national programmes and initiatives
We have a number of national programmes and initiatives to help schools provide warm, safe and dry learning environments.
Solar on Schools
Solar on Schools is a joint energy initiative between the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) and NZSPA.
Small and remote schools programme: Ngā Iti Kahurangi
This programme provides targeted building upgrades to small and remote schools and kura.
Modifying classrooms
Work is underway to replace open-plan classrooms with walls to create enclosed learning spaces.
Safer Drinking Water in Schools
The Safer Drinking Water in Schools Programme is working to upgrade drinking water infrastructure at schools – most of which are small and remote – that supply their own drinking water.
To find out more about the programme, contact the Safer Drinking Water in Schools team at WaterServices.Delivery@schoolproperty.govt.nz.
Boiler replacement programme
Diesel boilers are being replaced at up to 70 schools nationwide, removing dependence on diesel for heating and protecting schools from future fuel price shocks.
Offsite Manufactured Building
Offsite Manufactured Building (OMB) is a fast, efficient way to provide new learning environments for schools.
Rebuilding Christchurch Schools
The Government is investing over $1.6 billion in the Christchurch Schools Rebuild (CSR) programme, to rebuild and repair 115 schools in greater Christchurch following the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes.
