Modifying classrooms
Work is underway to install walls and partitions in open-plan teaching and learning areas to create clear, defined classroom spaces.
The programme of work has come about after a request from schools to enclose spaces to create quieter environments that are more conducive to learning.
At the end of 2025 schools were asked to register their interest in reinstating classroom walls. Nearly 200 responded and a pilot was undertaken to assess delivery approaches and costs.
As of June 2026, the pilot has seen a total of 46 school assessments carried out and wall modifications completed at 6 schools. By the end of 2026, at least 38 schools are expected to have received modifications through the pilot programme.
