Standardising school buildings and designs
We’re standardising the way we plan, design and deliver school property projects across New Zealand, working in partnership with schools and kura.
Standardisation means we can deliver projects more quickly, affordably and consistently than before – and to a quality standard that will last and be easier to maintain.
Standard buildings are designed to a fixed set of specifications and requirements. Structural elements are locked in, but schools can choose from a range of colours, finishes, cladding and other materials that reflect their identity and community.
We’ll also work with schools and kura to figure out the best type of building for their site and where it should go, so that it fits in with their existing buildings, future plans and any other special features.
Standardisation means that school buildings and teaching spaces:
- are delivered faster
- are fit for purpose to meet the needs of schools and kura
- are of consistent quality
- achieve value for money
- are easier to build and maintain
- are flexible to adapt to future needs.
As well as standardising our buildings, we have standardised interior layouts and materials, in consultation with educators and the construction sector. These offer schools a range of options that can be adapted to best meet their needs.
