Design review for new school builds and redevelopments
We review designs for new schools and significant redevelopments as part of our quality assurance process.
The purpose of a design review
A design review is an important part of any large project. Our reviews focus on durability, resilience, and whole-of-life cost. We aim to make sure our schools meet the long-term needs of learners and teachers.
Our design reviews are a collaborative process that gives expert advice to the project. We work with an independent and impartial panel of experts who support our team with reviews, including:
- architects
- geotechnical engineers
- structural engineers, and
- other subject matter experts where necessary.
Plan for the design review
The number of design reviews you need to do will depend on the size and risk profile for the project. Our factsheet has more information to help you plan for design reviews.
If you have any questions about design reviews, email us at design.review@schoolproperty.govt.nz or contact your project’s delivery manager.
Design review checklists
Our checklists will help you prepare for a design review. They explain what documents you need to submit, depending on which design stage the review is for.
You must include a completed deliverables checklist with your review submission.
